Behind the Blog: Home Workspace

When my husband and I first moved into our modest, 3 bedroom home, it was just the two of us with one very misbehaved dog and a sweet baby girl on the way. We set up the nursery in one of the extra bedrooms leaving the third bedroom to serve as my craft room/office.

Fast forward 8 years, and our 1,654 sq. ft. home is now holding a family of five, one very sweet dog, a fish named Kitty, and four chickens. Yes, the chicks are inside right now until they get a little older. That's a story for a different day though.

As you may have already guessed, having a craft room/office did not last long when more babies entered the scene. The transitions left my computer, books, and craft supplies homeless. I couldn't just throw my crafty/bloggy stuff out on the street though. After my second child was born, it was time to get resourceful and find a new area for crafting and blogging.

Thinking back, I now find it amazing that I was able to eventually make room for it all! It's all about getting creative with the space you have! The entryway closet became a craft closet that now holds what once filled a whole room. And both an office and sewing nook were carved out in the master bedroom. I'll share the sewing space at some point, but today I want to focus on the office area in the bedroom that houses our computer and office materials. This small area sits right in between our his and her closets. It's where I do most of my blogging when I'm not creating new content, typing away at my mom's house on her laptop, or scrawling out a post with pencil and paper. How I LOVE to write things down on an actual piece of paper! But I digress! Let's get back to the topic at hand...

We're talking about the home office. Yes, my work space--containing my computer, sources of inspiration, blog supplies, and binders for home management and blogging. I even have a cute container to hold my memory chips--there are a lot. I used to lose them all around the house until I finally found a permanent place for them in a ceramic jar labeled MEMORIES.

My little workspace is nothing fancy--just an organized office nook that I can retreat to when I need to write a post, get on the computer, pay bills... The computer sits on an old bookcase that once belonged to my mother-in-law. It could certainly use a little TLC, but that will just have to wait its turn on the to do list. The space is functional, cozy, and simple. Again, nothing fancy. This post isn't about showing off something that looks like it came out of a magazine though. The purpose is to give your a behind the scenes look--a REAL look--at where I'm sitting right now as I type this.

Are you wanting to see? Where are my manners? Here I am rambling on and on and leaving you waiting. Come on in and visit for awhile...

    1. Thanks, Katie! For awhile, we thought we'd turn the little room off the kitchen into an office, but it became the homeschool room instead. I took a look at your office space. It is so beautiful and bright!

  3. I looks great! I love the typewriter and the shelf brackets. Wow about your lack of space, makes me feel like I have no excuse to get my house in order. Maybe a small house is a blessing. I use half the rooms to hold the contents of the other half of the rooms that are under construction! Sheesh!!

    1. Thanks, Liz. The house is small, but it just forces us to maximize every inch of space. It's spacious where it counts. Most of the area is the kitchen, living room, and master suite.

  4. Your work space is really cute! I have a desk in the living room that I hope to update within the year. You've given me a bit of inspiration. :) (visiting from This is How We Roll)
