DIY: Letter Wall Decor

Letter Wall Decor is a fun way to add interest and personality to a space. These new decorative wall letters in the homeschool room do just that! The 3-dimensional cardboard letters really add a pop of fun to the wall.

The decorative wall letters are the first of three new projects I created for the homeschool room and will be sharing here on the blog. When I first decided to make a few changes to the back wall of the homeschool room. I had a few goals in mind: add functional storage space, create visual interest with some new DIY projects, and maintain the homey, schoolroom feel to the room. The salvaged wood shelves give us the extra storage space--something you can never have too much of when you school at home. The book page letters add a quirky, fun touch to the room.

Book pages were used for the front of these decorative wall letters since they were being used to spell the word "READ!" How appropriate for a schoolroom, right? The great thing about these DIY wall letters is that you can use this same idea to spell anything--a child's name in their bedroom, the word "PLAY" in the playroom, or even "READ" in a schoolroom or reading nook. The possibilities are endless!

Book Page Wall Letters
Supplies:

• 3-dimensional cardboard letters (R-E-A-D)
• book pages (Heavy pages work best.)
• pencil
• scissors
• acrylic paint (I used white to match the white space of the book pages.)
• sponge brush for painting
• plastic container
• glue
• silicon brush for glue

Directions:

1. Gather your materials. Having trouble finding book pages? I found a book that we had more than one copy of, so I didn't mind cutting it up. You could also visit a used bookstore for an inexpensive book to use for this project.
2. Place one of the book pages with the side you want to eventually show facedown on your work surface. Now lay one of the cardboard letters on top in the opposite direction that it will go up on the wall.
3. Trace closely around the letter.
4. Cut the letter out and repeat these steps with the remaining letters that you are using to spell out your word.

5. Paint each cardboard letter. Tip: Don't worry about the backs since they are going up on the wall. Mainly focus on the sides of each letter. Paint the fronts too in case a book page wasn't cut exact and a small part of the cardboard is visible.
6. Allow the painted cardboard letters to dry completely.
7. Brush a small amount of glue onto the front of each cardboard letter.
8. Line up each book page cutout onto its matching letter. Smooth out any wrinkles in the paper. Let the glue dry before hanging them on the wall.

Hang your book page letter decor and enjoy! I used Command strips to mount each letter to the wall, but feel free to try another method.

Not to get off topic, but they really are the cutest books! We love books and reading, so our new letter wall decor is the perfect addition to this cozy space!
