Melted Pony Bead Jewelry

As a child, do you remember making jewelry and other crafts with pony beads? They're bright, colorful, and super fun to craft with! They are also really inexpensive which is a huge plus when you just can't stop yourself from buying more craft supplies. Anyone else have that problem?

Did you know that pony beads can also be melted down? It's like getting a whole new craft item to work with! Here I've used my melted beads to make earrings and a bracelet. It's Melted Pony Bead Jewelry! They are fun to wear or give as gifts! Wouldn't these make a cute Mother's Day or birthday present? This is a great craft for the kids to get involved in--with supervision, of course, since it does involve using an oven. Are you ready to make your own melted bead jewelry? Here's how...

Melted Pony Bead Earrings

Supplies:

• pony beads
• baking pan
• oven
• E-6000 adhesive
• earring posts and backs
• card stock or Kraft paper tags (optional)

Directions:

1. Place your beads on a baking pan. You can use one with individual slots or place the beads on a cookie sheet leaving a few inches between each bead.

 2. Set the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the beads until they have melted into little circles. Let them cool for a few minutes before removing them from the pan.

3. Once your beads have completely cooled, you can add a dab of adhesive to the back of each one and attach it to an earring post.

4. Let the adhesive set completely. I usually let it sit for at least thirty minutes before picking the pieces back up. The great thing about using E-6000 is that it gives such a strong, lasting bond.

5. If you want to give your earrings to someone as a gift, put them on a piece of card stock or tag to keep them together as a set.

Melted Pony Bead Bracelet

Supplies:

• melted pony beads (see above)
• bracelet with blanks (This one is similar to what I used.)
• E-6000 adhesive

Directions:

1. Melt several pony beads just like before. To prepare your bracelet, you may need to remove a few links to ensure an accurate fit. I wanted this to fit my daughter's wrist, so I used pliers to remove two of the blanks.

2. Use the adhesive to attach a bead to each blank disc. Allow everything to dry.

3. Wear or gift you new piece of handmade jewelry.

That's it! Now you have some gorgeous and unique pieces. It fun to try a mix of different colors as you're making these! It was interesting to see that some colors melted a little quicker than others. If you do try this craft for yourself, be sure to share it with me in the comments.
