It's time for November's installment of the 12 Months of Sensory Dough series! Each month 11 of my fellow bloggers and I are sharing our playtime adventures involving a different kind of dough. Last month we made Glowing Dough, and this month's theme is Salt Dough!
The kids and I used our salt dough for a fun, fall craft. Here's how...
Making the Salt Dough
Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup vegetable or olive oil
food coloring
Directions: Mix the flour, salt, water, and oil together in a bowl. Add a little more flour or water if needed until the dough reaches the desired consistency. Separate the dough into smaller bowls. Add food coloring to each bowl to create various fall colors. Let playtime begin!
Making the Leaves
Supplies:
salt dough
cookie cutters or pie crust cutters (leaf-shaped)
baking tray
straw
twine
parchment paper
Directions: Lay a piece of parchment paper onto a baking tray. Flatten out pieces of salt dough and use leaf-shaped cutters to begin making salt dough leaves. Lay the leaves onto the tray. Use a straw to punch a small hole into the top of each leaf. Bake the leaves at 200 degrees for 3-4 hours. Let them cool and harden overnight. Once they have cooled, you can tie twine through the hole of each to hang them. Use them to create a garland, napkin rings, or fall decor for a room. Be creative and have fun!

ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful, AND I already own those leave cut-outs! I love them for making my pies pretty, and I know my 3 year old will have a fun time using them for a craft. I've never seen a salt dough recipe with oil, what is the benefit of having oil in the recipe?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I love those leaf cut-outs too. They are great for so many purposes! I find that the oil gives the dough a better texture. It holds together better and isn't as crumbly. Thanks for stopping by!
