Christmas Scene Ornaments for Kids

A snowman complete with a carrot nose and top hat... The tree glistening with lights and ornaments... Carolers singing out in the snowy streets... The bustle and delight of a toy store at Christmas... These are just some of the sights and sounds of holidays.

Capture these moments and more with Dimensional Christmas Scene ornaments. These are so fun and easy to make! Here's how...

Materials
  • colorful card stock
  • punches (We used snowflakes.)
  • crayons, markers, or colored pencils
  • dimensional tape
  • stickers
  • scissors
  • craft knife
  • ribbon
  • tape
  • clear plastic or vellum (We actually used the plastic wrapper from one of our packs of stickers.)
  • double-sided tape (optional)
  • paper trimmer (optional)

Directions
1. Cut two pieces of card stock the exact same size.
2. Place strips of dimensional tape around the perimeter of one of the pieces of card stock.  We put the tape on the white side of the paper and used two layers of tape to give it more thickness.
3. Use the craft knife to cut out the inside of the other piece of card stock creating a frame.  (This is obviously a step for the grown-ups.)
4. You now have a background and a frame.
5. Let the kids decorate their background with stickers.  Lydia Grace used snowmen stickers and Eli use tree and ornament stickers--each building their own Christmas scene.
6. The backgrounds can also be colored.
7. Now it's time to sprinkle your scene with some snowflakes or other punches.
8. Peel the backing off the dimensional tape.  Cut a piece of vellum or clear plastic big enough to seal the background and cover part of the tape all around.  Lay your frame over the plastic and the uncovered part of the tape.  (Tip: You can also add double-sided tape to hold the frame down if the plastic you cut covers too much of the dimensional tape to stick.)
9. Tape ribbon to the back of the ornament.
10. When you move it around, the punches will drift around your scene.  It's an ornament that is whimsical, fun, and interactive!
