September is National Sewing Month and what better way to celebrate than with a fun sewing project! Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores and Waverly sent me some beautiful fabric along with a challenge to "transform something in my life".
I have been working little by little to transform my laundry room, and this fabric made another lovely addition.
Curtain Tutorial
1. The fabric's quality and durability made it perfect for curtains. After measuring the space and calculating the amount of fabric I would need, I cut out two separate pieces. Two curtain panels were required since there is a divider along the rod that I hung them from. Each piece was cut to measure 1 yard wide and the desired length plus 6 inches to account for the hemlines.
2. For the sides and the bottom, I folded the fabric over 1/4 in. and another 3/8 in. and pinned it in place.
3. Sewing along these folds created my hemlines.
4. For the top, I folded the fabric over 1/4 in. and then another 5 inches, so that it would fit over the rod. After this hem was sewn, I was able to press the fabric and hang the panels from the rod in the laundry room.
So much better! This is a great way to add a punch of color to a room if you have a paint phobia like I do, or if you love color but simply prefer to keep your walls neutral. For me, new curtains can be sewn and hung a lot quicker and easier than applying a new coat of paint.

I love this curtain iddea! I need to make a curtain to cover a storage area in our basement, I think I will give this a try!
