Cork Board Makeover

A very plain and very brown cork board recently landed itself in our garage compliments of Tim's step dad.  {squeal}  "Why is that exciting?" you ask.  Because I saw its potential to be something cute and colorful.  Here are the before and after pictures...
There is still a small crack running along the bottom of the cork, but I think it just adds a little extra character.

In between the before and after...
1. I spray painted the entire cork board white.  I had hoped that it might hide the crack I previously mentioned but...no luck.  Remember...character...it just adds character.  2. Using a stencil, sponge brush, and acrylic paint, I began to add the colored paisley designs.  Due to the nature of cork, this method did not produce very nice results.  That takes us to the next step.  3. The paint ran or didn't cover properly using the stencil, so I had to pretty much paint over everything by hand with a thin bristled paintbrush.  As I went along doing touch-ups, I also added extra details and embellishments.  If the paint had run somewhere it wasn't wanted...I just painted over it and turned it into an added embellishment.  Magnets were glued onto the back in order to allow me to place it on the refrigerator.  I have a chalkboard to work on next, and it is going right under the cork board as I continue to build my home "command station"!
Want to make the cute push pins?
And here's...

Do you have a "command station" in your home with a cork board, calendar, menu planner...?
I'd love to hear about it!

Happy Crafting!
