Alphabet Weekends is a fun read by Elizabeth Noble. It is about two friends who spend twenty-six weekends together doing activities beginning with each letter of the alphabet. When I read this book a couple of years ago, Tim and I thought it sounded like a fun idea. We gave it a try and began taking turns picking an activity for that particular weekend. We only made it to "E". Tim decided that Engagement ring shopping was his pick. Needless to say that led to a wedding whirlwind of activities, and we never picked up where we left off with "F".
We have decided to give the idea another try though. This time we are going to attempt to make it to "Z" only skipping weekends where there are birthdays, holidays, or other special events needing our attention.
I know what you are thinking...
Why?
What's the point?
Isn't this a rather silly idea?
My answer:
It's fun!
We want to spend time together as a family doing quality activities.
Yes, it is silly, but sometimes we could all use a little "silly" in our lives. Wouldn't you agree?
The author's answer:
"I got the idea, as I get a lot of great ideas, from talking with my fantastic girlfriends. They are wise and funny and smart. We were talking about how you keep a marriage--busy with work and children--fresh and exciting, and out of its rut. (And please understand, ruts are not always bad places to be--they can be comfortable and contented.) Trying new things together, having new adventures came up, and the alphabet idea followed on from that."
So here we are at the beginning of the alphabet with "A". I picked first and decided we would take Lydia Grace on her first trip to the Aquarium.

I think Lydia Grace was slightly scared of the jellyfish.
